Is Online Coaching Worth It? What to Expect from App-Based PT

Online coaching gets dismissed as a PDF with a monthly invoice. Done properly it is closer to having a coach on retainer: they design the plan, review your execution, and adjust it before problems compound.

What is actually included

  • A custom programme in an app, updated every training block.
  • Video demonstrations for every exercise prescribed.
  • Form video submissions with written frame-by-frame feedback.
  • Weekly check-ins covering training logs, weight, sleep and nutrition direction.

Who it works for

It works for people who will show up on their own but do not want to guess at programming: frequent travellers, shift workers, and lifters with two or more years of experience.

It works poorly for absolute beginners who have never been coached in person. If you have never squatted under supervision, start with a few in-person or form sessions, then move online.

The cost comparison

In-person training in Northern Johannesburg runs roughly R300 to R400 per session. Two sessions a week is around R2,800 a month. Online coaching at R1,200 a month covers programming and accountability, but you supply the effort and the venue.

The honest framing: online coaching buys structure and feedback. In-person coaching buys structure, feedback and real-time correction.
